Mobile Home Safety: Securing Your Space
Mobile homes might be smaller than many traditional homes, but it's still important that you and relatives feel safe. What security options could mobile homeowners take advantage of?
Using Alarm Systems
Often the easiest, most relieving measure to take is to install a simple, effective home security alarm system. Your mobile home can be wired up within a morning or afternoon; you will be notified if any intruder tries to breach a window or door. Cameras may be something you can add onto a basic system to give you more visibility whenever you're wondering who is near your property.
Remember that alarm systems must be linked up to local law enforcement. Whether an alarm company contacts police for you or you do it, ensure that a tripped alarm will immediately notify police as well as the alarm manufacturer's company. Also, remember to use the stickers or signs an alarm company gives you so that intruders don't even try to bother your mobile home because it's protected.
Employing Property Lighting
Having bright lighting to illuminate the entire outside of your property can quell any fears about noises you hear or concerns that someone is lurking about at night. Whether you always have outdoor lighting set up or arrange some motion-sensor lights along a particular path, more visuals are good. In fact, if your personal alarm system includes cameras, lighting can be another way to track movement.
Consider Metal
Any doors already on your mobile home could be regular hollow core, wood doors. These could be kicked in without too much trouble by an intruder. Consider replacing those with metal doors which are strong and durable.
Changing Locks
Whether newly constructed or old, your mobile home has entrance locks. If the locks are simple and not deadbolts, consider a change. Deadbolts are durable and thick enough that they cannot usually be bypassed.
Don't Leave Spares Around
If you want to help kids or other relatives enter the house even if they don't have their own key for whatever reason, don't leave spares nearby. Intruders generally know that looking under rocks or mats might reveal a spare key. Ask neighbors or friends to hold extra keys instead.
Working with local authorities, alarm companies, neighbors, and others to increase security of your mobile home can keep the space safe. Remember to get feedback from others about how effective your system is, and remember to keep investigating new ways to be even safer.
